Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) for Social Welfare Issues Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar expected student organizations in Cipayung Plus to be able to produce cadres, who can become political leaders in future.

"I hope these youth and student organizations can produce political leaders, who can become stakeholders of national sovereignty and national leaders," he said in a press statement here Wednesday.

On Tuesday (May 23), Iskandar received the Cipayung Plus group in order to listen to their aspirations.

He was grateful that these student organizations can continue to grow through strong community bonds in cadreship, mental development, and leadership skills.

"I am very supportive, and we should all support student organizations to develop on-campus, off-campus, and in the community," he affirmed.

According to Iskandar, democracy in the government system provides wide opportunities to produce future leaders for the nation's development.

"We wait for great criticism, ideas, and ideologies for Indonesia," he stated.

Iskandar also invited all elements of society to support student organizations that have contributed significantly to Indonesia.

"The entire community, the government, and the state must keep supporting them," he said.

The audience was attended by national-level management in the Cipayung Plus group, namely the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII), Muslim Students' Association (HMI), Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI), and Union of Catholic University Students of the Republic of Indonesia (PMKRI).

The other attendees were the Indonesian Muslim Students Islamic Union (KAMMI), the Union of Indonesian Buddhist Students (HIKMAH BUDHI), the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Student Family (KMHDI), the Muhammadiah Student Association (IMM), the National Student League for Democracy (LMND), and the Islamic Union Student Association (HIMA PERSIS).

The interfaith organization has been involved in discussions with the government regarding several important issues.

In March 2022, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had received the student organization group at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, to discuss about the new capital IKN Nusantara development and prices of staple commodities.
