Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Greater Jakarta Police will involve the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) in the investigation of a recent multiple-vehicle collision set off by a speeding truck driven by a 17-year-old at Halim Utama Toll Gate.

"We need assistance and involvement of the KPAI so that this case handling can be completed soon," the Greater Jakarta Police's Traffic Director Senior Commissioner Latif Usman said here on Friday.

Due to his temperament, the driver seems to have trouble communicating with his family, he informed.

"Recently, his brother came to visit. However, this child's behavior is rather temperamental, he even did not want to be accompanied by his brother," he expounded.

He assured that his side will handle the case promptly.

He said that for now, Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection has been applied in the case.

"According to the temporary examination result, this child should be determined as a suspect. We impose (the Criminal Code of) Article 311, Paragraph 3, because the victim is slightly injured," he said.

However, he added, considering that the case is a public concern, his side will use an existing provision, such as Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.

The suspect's urine test came out negative for drugs, and he is in good health, he informed.

"We have coordinated with the correctional center; after that, we will do a follow-up action on the child," he said.

The police named the truck driver, identified by the initials MI, as a suspect in a series of accidents involving seven vehicles at Halim Utama Toll Gate, East Jakarta, on Wednesday (March 27, 2024).

"We have taken the driver," the National Police Traffic Directorate's director of law enforcement, Brigadier General Raden Slamet Santoso, said at the Police Headquarters here on Thursday.
