According to a statement received from his office in Jakarta, the President said he is seeking to ensure that the medical equipment provided by the central government functions optimally and caters to the needs of local residents.
"I wanted to ensure that the medical tools and equipment provided by the central government, both procured through special allocation funds and directly provided by the Health Ministry, are truly helpful to the people," he added.
He noted that a range of medical equipment, including those used for the catheterization laboratory, mammography, and CT scans, have been functioning as intended at the public hospital.
However, Widodo said, the hospital has specialist doctors but is still lacking equipment for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
"The hospital does not have MRI. We will seek to ensure that this hospital will have that service this year," he affirmed.
The head of state also pointed to the need for H. Hanafie Muara Bungo Hospital to increase its room capacity.
"An expansion is needed to boost the capacity of the hospital since this healthcare facility also serves people coming from other districts, such as Dharmasraya, Merangin, and Tebo," he pointed out.
He then emphasized that the central government will focus on enhancing infrastructure at the public hospital, and revealed that he had ordered Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono to deploy a team to evaluate the hospital.
To bolster service capacity at the hospital, he added, the government will concentrate on providing more medical equipment and expanding the building.
