Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Jasa Marga Toll Road Operator (JMTO) has readied 10 water pumps to anticipate flooding on the Jagorawi toll road due to extreme weather.

JMTO senior manager, Representative Office 1, Alvin Andituahta Singarimbun, informed that on the Jagorawi toll road section in particular, Jasa Marga is anticipating heavy rainfall with a possible risk of flooding.

"Therefore, we have prepared several pumps to eliminate the inundation," Singarimbun told ANTARA at Rest Area KM 10 A Jagorawi Toll Road, East Jakarta, on Friday.

He said that 10 submersible water pumps have been placed at several locations with a high risk of flooding.

His party has also readied a mobile pump for emergencies or any event requiring Jasa Marga to remove water from inundated roads.

"In addition, our cleaning team has cleaned all waterways to ensure that the drainage is working," he informed.

Jasa Marga has forecast the peak of Eid al-Fitr homecoming on Saturday (April 6, 2024).

Most traffic snarls are likely to occur at toll gates, especially Ciawi Toll Gate, with Jasa Marga projecting that around 20 percent of vehicle traffic leaving Jakarta will be heading south to Puncak.

During the return flow, congestion is likely to be caused at Ciawi Toll Gate 2 by traffic flowing from the south (Puncak) to Jakarta on D+4 Eid.

"I suggest to toll road users to choose other dates to travel other than D-4 Eid and D+4 Eid," Singarimbun said.

As per an earlier survey by the Transportation Ministry, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, and other institutions, as many as 193.6 million people are expected to travel during this year's Eid homecoming.

It has been predicted that as many as 259 thousand vehicles will leave Jabotabek (Jakarta-Bogor-Tangerang-Bekasi), an increase of 66.8 percent compared to normal traffic and 0.03 percent higher compared to the 2023 Eid.
