Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) is collaborating with FIFA to develop a new national football training center facility in Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, which is expected to have eight soccer fields by 2026.

"In one or two years, the facility will have eight soccer fields equipped with the best equipment designed to support football (development) in all levels," PSSI said in an official statement on Tuesday.

The development will be supported by the FIFA Forward funding scheme, valued at US$5.65 million, according to PSSI.

PSSI stated that the FIFA Forward scheme has significantly contributed to the nation's football development, right from training infrastructure to football talents.

"FIFA has also actively supported PSSI to bolster football development at the national level and for the youth through various initiatives, including infrastructure, women's football, and grassroots development," it stated.

Collaborations with FIFA are instrumental to the emergence of joint funding efforts, especially with regional authorities, which bolsters the development of the main training facility in the new capital.

PSSI sees this measure as a significant step in the efforts to develop Indonesia's football to the next level.

Moreover, Indonesia has joined the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) aimed at helping FIFA members achieve their full potential by ensuring new talented football athletes are given an opportunity to develop themselves.

PSSI's TDS program, which commenced in 2022, successfully identified 34 regional technical directors for various regions in Indonesia. They have undergone training to focus on grassroots development, young athletes' development, talent identification, and coach training.

For this year, the program will focus on nurturing technical directors to allow them to gain a broader understanding of the environment of talented athletes and its effective development strategies.
