Jakarta (ANTARA) - Religious Affairs Minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, stated that the Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah momentum this Wednesday could be a blessing for Indonesia and strengthen national unity after the 2024 General Election in February.

"I hope this year's Eid al-Fitr will be a blessing for all of us Indonesians and strengthen our unity as a nation after going through the election," he stated after attending the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He also expressed hope that this Eid would become a turning point for all community differences.

"After a month of Ramadan, we all passed it. We have become the best version of ourselves with progress and strength," the minister remarked.

Minister Qoumas attended the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque that started at 7:00 local time. The Eid prayer was also attended by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

In addition, several ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet performed the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, including Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia.

When met after the prayer, Minister Lahadalia stated that his side was grateful to be able to pray with the president and vice president at the Istiqlal Mosque.

On this occasion of Eid, he also reminded all parties to forgive one another after the political contestation several months earlier.

"Politics is over. Let us all be together again. There are differences in choices. There are words that are not appropriate, that are not acceptable. On this Eid al-Fitr, we must forgive each other," he affirmed.

On Tuesday (April 9), the Presidential Secretariat uploaded an Eid al-Fitr greeting video from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana.

"Hopefully, on this holy day, we can forgive each other and stay in touch with each other to rebuild our solidarity to become a harmonious and peaceful nation, to be united in building Indonesia," the president remarked.
