"Be law-abiding people with noble and virtuous morals and who are useful for nation building," he stated at the Eid al-Fitr Special Remission Awarding event at the Jakarta Narcotics Correctional Facility that was monitored online here on Wednesday.
He explained that during Eid al-Fitr 2024, a total of 159,557 prisoners comprising 158,343 adult prisoners and 1,214 juvenile prisoners received remissions and reduction in sentence period (PMP).
Of the total remission recipients, he remarked that as many as 157,366 people received partial reduction (RK I) and 977 people received RK II or immediately free.
Meanwhile, 19 juvenile prisoners were declared immediately free, while the sentence period for 1,195 had been reduced.
Chuldun explained that the provision of remission and reduction of sentence period is a tangible manifestation and the government's reward to prisoners and fostered children who always strive to do good, improve themselves, and return to being useful as members of society.
The remission and sentence period reduction indicate that the receivers are able to obey the rules and follow the program in prisons, detention centers, and the special children's development agencies (LPKA).
He said the program for prisoners aims to improve their morals and independence, so that they realize their mistakes, improve themselves, and do not repeat criminal acts.
"Thus, prisoners can be accepted back by the community and can live reasonably and responsibly as good and law-abiding citizens and can actively play a role in development," he stated.
