Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The East Java government is mapping the flow of tourist arrivals at a number of tourist destinations in the province to anticipate traffic congestion during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday.

In an official statement received here on Wednesday, East Java acting governor Adhy Karyono said that the comfort and safety of tourists are the provincial government's top priority.

"These tourist attraction points are a challenge, as we want people to travel safely, comfortably, and smoothly," he added.

His administration is monitoring priority destinations in East Java, such as Greater Malang and the Mount Bromo area, as they are tourist favorites.

The provincial government has also strengthened coordination with the Indonesian Military and the National Police to carry out traffic engineering on several routes leading to tourist areas.

The effort is expected to help prevent traffic jams and accidents.

Joint teams of traffic personnel will also monitor the routes taken by travelers to get to the destination areas.

"There is an increase of 19 percent in travelers who entered East Java during Eid," he said.

So far, his side has not recorded any security disturbances or emergencies.

"Thank God, this safe and comfortable situation can be felt by all East Java people," he said.

Karyono also lauded the joint personnel's optimal performance during the Eid exodus.

"Today, we can celebrate Eid Day. This cannot be separated from the role of all elements in East Java. This includes the provincial government, district governments, city governments, as well as the military and police," he added.

Karyono said that his side is also providing free homecoming and return services to support the mobilization of travelers.
