Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Finance, Suahasil Nazara, and their ranks on Sunday (April 14) to discuss developments in the global economic situation and latest geopolitical tensions.

“The development of the global economic and financial situation and very high geopolitical tensions are moving quickly. This condition affects various economic indicators that need to be anticipated," Indrawati wrote on her Instagram account @smindrawati as quoted on Monday.

She affirmed that the state budget continued to play a crucial role as an instrument in dealing with the global and national turmoil and dynamics.

Apart from discussing economic and geopolitical conditions, the minister and her ranks also discussed preparations for the G20 meeting next week as well as the IMF-World Bank Spring Meeting.

The global condition is facing conflict tensions between Iran and Israel. An attack on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1 ignited the latest hostilities between Iran and Israel.

The attack resulted in the killings of at least seven members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two top generals. Iran accused Israel of perpetrating the fatal attack.

Iran then launched a retaliatory attack by firing dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones at Israel on Saturday night (April 13).

According to Israel, the attack had been neutralized and only hit an Israeli military air base, with no serious damage incurred.

In the wake of such conditions, Indonesia expressed concern over escalation of the tense security situation in the Middle East and called on Iran and Israel to exercise restraint.

"Indonesia urges the United Nations Security Council to take action immediately to reduce tensions and continue to strive to establish peace in the Middle East," the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry wrote on the social media, X, on Sunday.
