Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to meet Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (April 17, 2024).

This information was conveyed by the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, here on Tuesday.

"Tomorrow, President Jokowi will meet Apple CEO Tim Cook at the Merdeka Palace at 9:30 a.m. local time," he informed via short message.

During the meeting, the two will discuss Apple's investment opportunities in Indonesia, which are important for the global technology advancement ecosystem, he said.

"I will convey the details later. Let's wait for tomorrow's meeting. This is good for Indonesia because our country is an important part of the technological advancement ecosystem," he added.

Setiadi said that Cook's visit to Indonesia is proof of the attractiveness of the nation's digital sector.

On a separate occasion, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita expressed the hope that investment potential would be discussed during the meeting.

"Yes, hopefully. We have been talking with Apple for a long time. We are talking about a policy, not a specific one, but our policy for Apple," he said.

He explained that Indonesia's policy for Apple concerns the offset or balance of the domestic component level for Apple products.

According to him, Apple has shown commitment to improving the quality of education in Indonesia in terms of digital talent human resources and infrastructure.

"They have three establishments, and soon it will be four, which is called the Apple Academy, which I think, the output is good enough to produce brainware human resources, produce innovations and applications that can be used by other companies," he said.
