Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of BNPB Abdul Muhari stated that the affected residents were evacuated to refugee camps at the GMIST Nazareth Bahoi Church, Bahoi Job Training Center, Tagulandang GOR, and Public Meeting Hall (BPU) in Tagulandang Sub-district.
"Residents in Patologi Village and Pumpente Village were evacuated to Tagulandang Sub-district using two ferries, namely KMP Lokong Banua and KMP Lohoraung plus a crossing boat belonging to residents," he remarked on Wednesday.
According to Muhari, several places of worship in South Tagulandang and North Tagulandang were also readied to serve as alternative places if the impacts of the eruption of Mount Ruang were to increase.
In addition, the joint search and rescue (SAR) team officers are on standby to assist the evacuation process of residents in the event of an increase in the impacts of the volcanic eruption.
"This morning, additional assistance from Basarnas Manado arrived in Tagulandang with KM BIMASENA consisting of 15 crew ship members and five rescuers," Muhari noted.
The government of Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands has declared an emergency response status for 14 days on April 16-29, 2024.
The emergency response status was declared after an increase in volcanic activity, from Level II to Level III in Sitaro District, North Sulawesi.
Based on a report received by the BNPB team at 1:30 local time on Wednesday, Mount Ruang erupted volcanic ash. This was the second eruption since the night of Tuesday (April 16) that led to the local area's communications network being cut off.
The BNPB ensures that basic needs, including those related to health, are met for the affected residents during the disaster emergency response period.
Aid distribution through the Sitaro District BPBD and North Sulawesi BPBD began on Wednesday morning, including the provision of 123 mats, 120 blankets, and 400 masks.
