Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia will highlight a local cultural approach to water management at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF), according to an expert staff of the Public Works and Public Housing Minister.

“Indonesia’s success in encouraging water management through the local cultural approach can be used for learning by the global communities,” Expert Staff of Public Works and Public Housing Minister for Technology, Industry, and Environment Endra S. Atmawidjaja stated here, Wednesday.

Atmawidjaja remarked that the good practice that involves all stakeholders is proof that Indonesia is able to lead the world in facing the water crisis.

He further noted that water management through local wisdom practices carried out in several regions in Indonesia provides optimism that real decisions will be taken by world leaders at the 10th WWF in Bali on April 18-25, 2024.

Atmawidjaja, who concurrently serves as Deputy Chairman I of the National Secretariat for the Organization of the 10th WWF, stated that world leaders can explore several interesting aspects from Indonesia, especially in resolving the issue of water management.

He cited some of the examples of the Subak irrigation system in Bali, Lake Bratan, and the Community Forest Park that showed the importance of mangroves in supporting water management.

The 10th WWF is expected to be a momentum for building cross-country collaboration in tackling the issue of water. He expressed belief that collaborative action can increase the capacity to face various water-related challenges.

To this end, the Indonesian government is pressing for the participation of heads of state, parliaments, regional heads, and water management authorities in the forum. Global collaboration is deemed crucial to bolster political will to resolve water issues.

He emphasized that Indonesia is ready to play an active role in implementing and monitoring the progress of agreements at the forum.

As the host of the 10th WWF, Indonesia has the opportunity to lead change and push sustainable management of water resources.

"Indonesia will introduce initiatives and innovations that have been carried out in the field of water management. They include the use of technology for water efficiency in various sectors," he remarked.
