Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has directed Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) to promptly secure 2,086 hectares of land with unclear status for the new national capital (IKN) Nusantara.

After attending a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, AHY revealed that President Widodo has asked him to take the most appropriate approach to secure the land so that IKN's development does not hurt locals.

"We aim for acceleration, but we should not take reckless steps. By taking a humane approach, I believe we will be able to successfully carry out all (development) stages and prevent problems from arising in the future," he told journalists.

He noted that the government needs to implement "social impact schemes," including by handing out compensation to locals, to legitimately secure several parcels of land in Nusantara.

The prioritized land parcels that need to be cleared include a 2.75-hectare area consisting of 22 parcels allocated for the Sepaku Flood Control Facility and a 44.6-hectare area comprising 48 parcels on which two segments of a toll road will come up.

The minister assured that the land status issue has not impeded the development of Indonesia's future capital.

He affirmed that his ministry is ready to provide full support to the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) to prepare land and manage spatial planning.

"In principle, we will only issue a certificate after a parcel of land is declared clean and clear, so that the land can be used for supporting projects in the IKN," he informed.

The payment of land compensation at IKN is being managed by the Finance Ministry's State Asset Management Agency (LMAN).

According to data from the Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Ministry, the government has completed nine detailed spatial plans and 10 of the 21 land procurement packages.
