Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) introduced IKN Nusantara as a climate-resilient city at the recent 2024 Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (APVN) event.

"OIKN's policies and initiatives aim to realize a sustainable, inclusive, smart, and climate-resilient city," the authority's deputy for environment and natural resources, Myrna Safitri, said in a statement released here on Thursday.

OIKN participated in the "Climate Pathfinder Workshop," an APVN pre-event in Abu Dhabi. APVN was held from April 22–25, 2024.

Safitri said that the AVPN global conference gathers the world's leading philanthropists, social investors, and policymakers to announce new alliances and launch new funding potential.

"And to form a strategic partnership to help Asian countries overcome funding shortage in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," she informed.

AVPN, which has more than 600 organizations and companies from 33 countries as members, plays an important role in connecting leaders of Asian countries to combine their resources, technical assistance, and policies to catalyze capital owned by foundations and companies in Asia.

Safitri emphasized that IKN Nusantara's development will not impact natural forests.

However, she pointed out that environmental challenges in Nusantara existed before the region was designated as the new national capital.

She said that one of the main challenges is that the forest in the Nusantara area only covers 16 percent of the total area.

"Nusantara aspires to be a city that prioritizes environmental conservation, which will be realized by making 65 percent of the Nusantara area become a protected area," she expounded.

With this effort, she said she expects Nusantara to become a climate-resilient, sustainable, livable, and fun city that contributes to net-zero emissions.
