Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) explored cooperation in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector with Papua New Guinea.

On Thursday (April 25), Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi received a visit of Papua New Guinea's Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Timothy Masiu, at the Kominfo Office in Jakarta.

"I sincerely hope that this meeting will facilitate a useful exchange of views for better understanding as well as provide insights for collaboration between the two countries," Setiadi noted in the ministry's press release.

According to Setiadi, ICT is a fundamental aspect that allows the development of all sectors in the digital era.

The minister stated that digital sectors can increase the global gross domestic product (GDP) by more than 50 percent. Digital sectors grow 2.10 percent faster than the non-digital sectors, he added.

Setiadi also highlighted the potential for Indonesia's economic growth to increase by 6.2 percent annually and contribute 20.5 percent to the national GDP in 2045 with the support of digitalization.

"This projection can be made possible with efforts to accelerate digital transformation that encourages economic growth," he remarked.

Hence, his side is open to collaboration in digital transformation to enable the acceleration of adaptation and the achievement of prosperity in the digital landscape.

He considered that efforts to realize cooperation in digital transformation between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are visible.

Kominfo is open to potential collaboration on frequency spectrum, broadcasting, and digital economy to advance micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups.

Setiadi expressed hope that collaboration in the ICT sector between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea would soon be realized.

"To advance inclusivity and prosperity for our nations, we will explore collaboration opportunities in the future," he stated.
