Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that Microsoft would not regret investing US$1.7 billion, or around Rp27.6 trillion, in Indonesia.

"Microsoft will not regret their investment in Indonesia. I promise," he remarked at the Microsoft Build: Al Day Jakarta at the Jakarta Convention Center on Tuesday.

The minister ensures that the Indonesian government would provide better incentives and other benefits to Microsoft, as compared to other countries.

"(It is) because any incentive you can get anywhere else, you can get it here. Incentives you get in India, Thailand, or anywhere else, we can do it better," Pandjaitan emphasized.

The minister affirmed that the Indonesian government does not want to hamper investors from investing in Indonesia.

"I have said in front of the president that Microsoft can send their team to visit us, and we can discuss in detail regarding the investment plan in Indonesia, and we will be happy to accommodate it," he stated.

The US technology company, Microsoft, plans to invest Rp27.6 trillion over the next four years in the development of Cloud, data centers, and artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.

The investment is aimed at developing Cloud and AI infrastructure, AI skills training for 840 thousand people, support for the developer community, and construction of data centers in Indonesia.

“Our data center will be coming to Indonesia soon. That means we will have a world-class training inference infrastructure, whether it is Nvidia, AMD, or Microsoft's Maya chips, they will all be part of the data center infrastructure, allowing every developer to train their models to do the best inference from their models through all infrastructure," Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, remarked.

The investment marks the largest single investment in Microsoft's 29-year history in Indonesia.

This digital infrastructure investment is a continuation of the Empower Indonesia initiative that the company announced in February 2021 to accelerate inclusive economic growth.
