... in terms of regulations, I think we are among the most advanced.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) has said that Microsoft's investment in Indonesia is smaller compared to its neighbor Malaysia possibly because Indonesia's adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is still in the early stages.

Maybe the (AI) adoption is more intense in other places or in our neighboring countries, while we are still in the early stages. However, in terms of regulations, I think we are among the most advanced," Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics, Nezar Patria, opined here on Monday.

Last week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced an investment commitment of US$1.7 billion, equivalent to Rp27.6 trillion, for the development of cloud computing, data center, and AI infrastructure in Indonesia for the next four years.

Recently, Microsoft announced a similar but larger investment in Malaysia of US$2.2 billion, equivalent to Rp35.2 trillion.

According to Patria, to increase AI's role and adoption in Indonesia, more research and development are needed so that the country becomes not only a market, but also a global player in the field of AI.

Meanwhile, he stressed that the government is committed to preparing AI governance regulations to guarantee the responsible use and development of AI.

Not only at the national level, Indonesia is also actively participating in global forums to showcase its efforts to realize responsible and safe AI governance in order to enter the AI global ecosystem smoothly.

"Mastery of AI is an absolute thing, therefore, we must prepare our young generation by collaborating with the global community to create safe and inclusive AI," Patria said.

Indonesia needs to prepare and use AI technology to realize a more connected, more digital, and better nation, he added.
