Nusantara, East Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has informed that the construction of the ceremonial field in the new national capital Nusantara has reached 90 percent completion.

The ministry is targeting to complete the ceremonial field — which is planned to serve as the venue of Independence Day anniversary commemoration ceremony on August 17 — by June 2024.

"The capacity of the field is 8 thousand people. The organizers of the ceremony are the State Secretariat and the Presidential Secretariat," the minister said while reviewing infrastructure in the presidential palace area of Nusantara in East Kalimantan on Monday.

He added that during the Independence Day ceremony, invited guests can make use of the four coordinating ministry buildings as well as 12 civil servant (ASN) housing towers, which will be completed soon.

"That's why the ASN transfer was postponed to after the ceremony," he said.

The minister explained that one of the reasons for the decline in the construction speed of the ceremonial field is that only 70 percent of the construction workers have returned to work after the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

To overcome this, the ministry has provided a Hercules aircraft to accommodate workers who wish to return to work for the construction of the new capital.

He also revealed that the grass used on the ceremonial field is a type of Zoysia matrella, which is usually used in soccer fields.

Earlier, Hadimuljono assured that the water supply in Nusantara has been determined to be safe before President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) starts to work from the new capital, which is expected to be in July after the airport and toll roads become operational.
