Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin deemed mass media as one of the effective instruments for guiding people to practice tolerance, uphold mutual respect, and maintain concord among interfaith communities.

"Broadcasting is a part of public services. Hence, contents circulating on media must be of high quality and comply with applicable values and norms," he remarked during the Ramadan Broadcast Award 2024 event followed online from Jakarta on Wednesday.

On that note, Amin affirmed that media companies play a critical role since items they are broadcasting can affect the character and outlook of individuals and also shape perceptions of the public.

"If utilized properly, the media can play a role as a unifier of the nation. Otherwise, the media can trigger fragmentation," he stated.

Bearing that in mind, the vice president called on Indonesian mass media and all parties involved in the production and broadcast of information to steadily incorporate messages of kindness and unity into their contents.

"It is important to share messages of kindness in good ways. Appropriate and heart-warming contents, God Willing, are easier to comprehend and can 'touch' the hearts of their audiences," he stated.

The vice president then lauded the holding of the Ramadan Broadcast Award 2024, regarding the event as a form of appreciation to broadcasting agencies for their contents spread during Ramadan earlier this year.

"I see this awarding ceremony as a good event aimed at selecting programs that other programs can take notes from," he remarked.

Amin also expressed hope that the holding of the awarding event would result in healthy competitions among mass media companies in presenting broadcasts that not only entertain people but also enlighten, endorse critical thinking, promote noble characters, and support unity and harmony.
