Gianyar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has asked athletes of Indonesian flagship sports to not be concerned about the funding for national training programs for the upcoming SEA Games.

According to Deputy IV for Sports Performance Development at the ministry Surono, the government will propose extra funding for organizing a long-term national training program to prepare the national team for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

"Once we get the extra budget, we will promptly organize the national training for flagship sports for the 2025 SEA Games," he said, according to a statement received here on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the training of Indonesian athletes in flagship sports should be undertaken without interruption. "Otherwise, we should start over again," he said.

The official highlighted that other countries have taken action to ensure their athletes receive year-round and long-term training to improve their performance and help them become champions.

"If Indonesia's national training program is halted, for instance, for one year, we should start over again," Surono emphasized.

Apart from the 2025 SEA Games, the extra budget for the national training will also help fund the training of athletes participating in other multi-sport events, such as the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, he said.

"We will ensure the chain of athletes' development, especially those of flagship sports, will not be interrupted to ensure our good performance is maintained," he added.
