The 2024 Joint Minex Pandu training is a joint exercise regularly held by the Indonesian Navy and the Singapore Navy (RSN) in the waters around Riau Islands that directly borders Singapore.
In an official broadcast from the Indonesian Navy on Thursday, the exercise was an opportunity to measure the capabilities of the KRI crew, especially in the mine warfare exercise.
"This exercise focuses on mine hunting and mine resistance actions to provide mutual support and a common goal of overcoming the crisis," Chief of Staff of Koarmada II, Commodore Isswarto, said while reading out the message from Commander of Koarmada II, Rear Admiral Ariantyo Condrowibowo, during the troops' roll call ahead of the 2024 Joint Minex Pandu training in Surabaya, East Java, on May 8.
The two warships prepared by the Indonesian Navy for the exercise are German-made minehunter vessels built at the Abeking & Resmussen Shipyard, Lamwerder-Bremen. The mine countermeasure vessel (MCMV) ship, weighing 1,444 tons, measures 61.4 meters in length and 11.1 meters in width. The ship can sail at a maximum speed of 18 knots, cruising speed of 10 knots, and economic speed of 10 knots.

The non-magnetic steel ship has four lift craft units, two rigid hull inflatable boats, a degaussing system to reduce the ship's magnetic power, and an electric motor drive that can lower the noise.
The two mine-hunting vessels also have an autonomous underwater vehicle (UAV) to detect and identify contacts and objects in the water, and an unmanned surface vessel (USV) to clear mines on the sea surface.
Moreover, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and underwater sonar equipment help to detect threats in deep water.
The two ships have begun strengthening the Indonesian Navy, especially Koarmada II, since August 2023.
