The six regions are the provinces of Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, and North Sumatra.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and officials from the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police have selected six provinces as locations for a pilot project on tourism transport arrangement and evaluation.
"The six regions are the provinces of Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, and North Sumatra," Sumadi said after chairing a joint internal meeting with the police at Korlantas' Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He said that the government and police will run a pilot project in the six provinces, which will seek to rearrange, evaluate, and inspect the safety of the transportation modes used for tourism activities.
The minister added that the six regions were chosen as they have a relatively large number of tourism vehicles.
"This constitutes a short-term initial step. Our plan is to carry out such a project in all regions of Indonesia," he informed.
Meanwhile, head of the Korlantas, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, affirmed that his side is ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation to carry out inspections in the six provinces.
He said that he had held meetings with regional police to deal with issues concerning tourism buses.
He assured that the police will carry out comprehensive surveillance of tourism buses, from upstream to downstream, including by enforcing regulations against violators.
"We will address tourism bus-related issues from the upstream to the downstream, meaning (our surveillance) will start from bus depots in cities and districts," he informed.
The joint meeting between the Transportation Ministry and Korlantas took place in response to a fatal accident involving a tourism bus that was transporting teachers and students of a vocational high school.
The bus crashed in Subang district, West Java, on Saturday (May 11, 2024), resulting in 11 deaths.
