Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) along with the National Police (Polri) arrested an Asian network drug lord named Johann Gregor in Cebu, the Philippines.

Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau of BNN, Brigadier General Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono, stated on Thursday that the arrest was made with information received from law enforcement officials in Indonesia regarding a narcotics trafficking case that occurred on December 5, 2023, related to evidence of crystal methamphetamine.

"One of the perpetrators turned out to be abroad, so we asked the National Police for help, in this case, the International Relations Division, to submit a red notice to Interpol," he remarked.

Further discovery found that Gregor was the perpetrator. He is an Australian citizen, with his address identified as Gili Trawangan, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Hartono revealed.

The arrest involved domestic authorities, namely Polri, Directorate General of Immigration, and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and also in collaboration with the Philippine law enforcement authorities.

"We were able to arrest him on May 15 in Cebu, the Philippines," Hartono disclosed.

Currently, Gregor is still under detention in Cebu and will soon be picked up for further action.

"We will immediately take him and ask him to reveal his network in Indonesia and other places. He used to move a lot, not only in Indonesia but other countries as well," Hartono stated.

Currently, his side is still coordinating with Indonesian and Philippine officials regarding plans to bring Gregor to Indonesia.

Hartono also did not mention the evidence secured during the raid. Currently, the evidence is still being examined by law enforcement officials in the Philippines.

On Wednesday (May 15), Head of the National Police's International Relations Division, Inspector General Krishna Murti, uploaded a video on his social media account of the arrest of Gregor in Cebu. The perpetrator was seen wearing a white t-shirt and jeans while being arrested from his car.

In another post, a picture of Gregor's passport was uploaded under a different name, Fernando Tremendo Chimenea.
