Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) established a task force mandated to provide security support in cyberspace for the 10th World Water Forum scheduled for May 18–25 in Bali.

The agency's spokesperson, Ariandi Putra, stated that the task force is responsible for securing information, ensuring the security of the utilization of internet protocol-based telecommunication networks, and maintaining related infrastructure.

"We formed the cyber and crypto security task force to implement Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2024 concerning the National Organizing Committee of the 10th World Water Forum in 2024," he noted in BSSN's statement on Friday.

He explained that the BSSN serves as an official state agency tasked with actualizing, preserving, and safeguarding the national cyber sovereignty of Indonesia.

Putra said that the task force had been collaborating with the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to conduct an assessment of the cybersecurity of an application dedicated to registering participants in the forum.

He further noted that the agency had also been working with the State Secretariat Ministry to ensure a strong level of cybersecurity for an app used for registering local committees.

Moreover, he highlighted that BSSN's task force had been conducting surveillance on issues related to the global-level forum circulating on social media platforms.

He affirmed that the task force will work to detect and avert both technical and social potential cyber threats during the holding of the triennial forum.

Putra remarked that BSSN's task force had collected data on cyber assets to prepare for the forum.

"All the measures are meant to ensure the success of BSSN's cyber and crypto security task force in supporting the smooth running of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali," he stated.

The World Water Forum constitutes the world's largest water resource-related event, whose establishment was driven by the increasingly urgent need to address water issues in a bid to provide quality and sustainable access to water for a broader population of the planet.

The 10th edition of the forum, which adopts the theme of "Water for Shared Prosperity," will draw participation from 33 heads of state and 190 ministries from 180 countries.
