Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that full use of electric vehicles (EV) will be adopted in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, with support from the private sector to prepare the procurement of units.

"We are updating electric vehicles at IKN along with several private companies," Sumadi remarked at the inauguration of the 2024 ITS Asia Pacific Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He revealed that EV will be available for commercial use and for leasing or temporary use.

The Indonesian government will collaborate with several private companies to use and procure EV at IKN.

For instance, an Indonesian transportation company, PT Blue Bird Group, will provide environmentally friendly public transportation services in the IKN area, along with other foreign companies.

Through this collaboration, Sumadi is optimistic that IKN will be a pioneer of smart transportation-based cities in Indonesia.

"This program will not only be carried out by the government but also with participation from the private sector in the future," he stated.

In addition, EV trials at IKN will be carried out starting in August 2024. If the trials are completed, the government will gradually expand EV facilities and services at IKN, he remarked.

"We hope to be able to run the trial in August," he stated.

Furthermore, the IKN Nusantara Authority (OIKN) will fully implement the use of EV in the IKN area by 2045.

The minister highlighted that the full use of EV is carried out to introduce the public to the gradual implementation of EV at IKN in accordance with the readiness of the developed area.

Moreover, the full use of EV is being carried out to achieve the target of zero emissions in IKN by 2045. This zero emissions target is also supported by the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) that will supply clean energy to meet the needs of IKN, he revealed.
