Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia will continue efforts to expand its export market by showcasing its products at international exhibitions, Deputy Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga, has said.

Indonesia's participation in the Salon International de l'Alimentation (SIAL) exhibition in Shanghai, China, from May 28–30, 2024, is aimed at introducing the country's food and beverage products to international consumers, especially those residing in Asia, he informed.

"We are committed to continuing our efforts to reach a broader international market and introducing the excellence of Indonesian food and beverage products to the world," he said, according to a statement received from the Trade Ministry here on Wednesday.

The Indonesian Pavilion at the expo is showcasing products from eight exhibitors, including instant noodles, coffees, swift's nests, cooking oil, tempe, and snacks.

It is also running a coffee cupping session, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the wide range of tastes and scents of Indonesian coffees.

During the 2019–2023 period, the value of Indonesia's exports to China -- the host of the SIAL exhibition -- increased by 27.3 percent, pointing to the significant potential for intensified bilateral cooperation.

In 2023, Indonesia's main exports to China included ferronickel (US$14.9 billion), lignite (US$7.9 billion), coal (US$6.9 billion), matte nickel (US$4.9 billion), and palm oil (US$.3.6 billion).

Meanwhile, Indonesia's main imports from China last year comprised smartphones (US$4.7 billion), automatic data processing machines (US$1.7 billion), autonomous bulldozers (US$1.1 billion), and insulated wires (US$788 million).

According to its website, the SIAL Shanghai exhibition is taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and is expected to draw 5 thousand exhibitors from over 70 countries.
