Head of the Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Bureau, Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumantha, stated when contacted here on Friday that Prabowo's presence in the international forum will demonstrate Indonesia's active role in maintaining world peace and stability.
“Minister Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a special speech in the forum on Saturday afternoon, June 1, 2024. That session will be moderated directly by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Executive Chairman Sir John Chipman,” Sumantha remarked.
He stated that the Shangri-La Dialogue is a platform for defense leaders and stakeholders to discuss global strategic security issues.
Shangri-La Dialogue is a forum for discussing strategic, geopolitical, defense, and security issues that brings together state leaders, government officials, analysts, experts, think-tanks, and academicians.
The forum has been held on an annual basis in Singapore since 2002 by the IISS.
The series of the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue is being held from May 31 to June 2, 2024. Several defense ministers, including the United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun, will attend the forum.
Meanwhile, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. is scheduled to deliver his speech on the first day of the event. Thereafter, on the last day, Singapore's Minister of Defense Ng Eng Hen will deliver a speech themed "Re-Imagining Solutions for Regional Stability."
At the 2023 20th Shangri-La Dialogue, Prabowo was present as one of the panelists and offered several proposals to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
His proposals included a ceasefire, establishing a demilitarized zone, urging the United Nations to immediately establish and deploy peacekeepers in the region, and pushing for a referendum.
