Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has pledged to strengthen defense cooperation with Singapore.

"The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is ready to increase defense cooperation, especially after the enactment of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA)," he said in a statement. "This includes joint training, maritime security, and educational exchange programs."

Earlier on Saturday, he held a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Singapore after attending the opening reception of the 21st edition of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue.

During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation to Wong for his warm welcome during the forum.

The Indonesian President-elect highlighted the importance of the Shangri-La Dialogue in fostering regional dialogue to address security challenges and build trust among Asia-Pacific nations.

He was also slated to deliver a special address at the dialogue on the topic of international involvement and commitment to maintaining regional security stability.

Prabowo congratulated Wong on his appointment as the new prime minister of Singapore and praised the good leadership and communication that Wong has built with the Indonesian government.
