Industry Minister's expert staff for domestic industry capacity strengthening, Ignatius Warsito, said here on Wednesday that the survey has been designed to build understanding on the estimates and problems related to the demand and supply of e-motorcycles in the country.
The survey is expected to help encourage technological transformation in the development of the electric motorcycle industry in Indonesia.
"The collaboration of the Industry Ministry and JICA is expected to be an important step for pushing economic growth, innovation, and technological transformation in Indonesia," he said.
According to Warsito, the ministry is targeting to increase the number of electric motorcycles in Indonesia by 4.5 million units per year.
This target is driven by the ministry's commitment to push massive domestic use of electric motorcycles by providing purchase incentives as well as making Indonesia a sales and production center for the main components of e-motorcycle batteries in the Southeast Asia region.
"This effort is strengthened by the plan to build 32 thousand public charging or battery exchange stations by 2030, as well as providing incentives for e-bike owners such as discounts on electricity rates and tax breaks," he said.
He added that the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry would create new jobs, reduce the impact of conventional vehicles' use on the environment, and make Indonesia a main player in the e-mobility industry in ASEAN.
Earlier, the Ministry of Industry reported that the government has so far distributed subsidies for the purchase of 30,083 electric motorcycles, accounting for 60.1 percent of the target of 50 thousand e-motorcycles for the 2024 budget year.
