Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil claimed that the innovation and open technology approach applied at the Legok Nangka Waste Regional and Final Processing Site (TPPAS) in Bandung, West Java, is the largest in Indonesia.

"Not only that, the technology used there is the first in the country. The concept of waste handling into energy at the Legok Nangka TPPAS is the largest in Indonesia," Kamil noted in his statement received here on Friday.

The governor ensured that management of the waste processing site proceeds. The Sumitomo Hitachi Zosen Consortium was announced the winner of the tender auction for the project on July 12, he remarked.

To discuss the project further, Governor Kamil held a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Vice Minister of Environment in Jakarta, Monday (July 17).

"The meeting discussed cooperation in the development of the Legok Nangka TPPAS and Bekarpur (Bekasi, Karawang, Purwakarta) TPPAS. Hopefully, this meeting would produce cooperation that is beneficial to the environment and society," he remarked.

He explained that the consortium managing the waste site will convert the waste into energy that will be purchased by state electricity firm PT PLN.

"With environmentally friendly waste-to-energy technology, Legok Nangka will become a waste power plant (PLTSa), with a generation capacity of up to 18 Megawatts (MW)," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the West Java Provincial Government and PLN have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Electricity Power Supply from the Legok Nangka TPPAS.

Kamil said PLN has expressed its support for the processing of waste into green electric energy.

Governor Kamil and PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo signed the MoU in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, to support the government's efforts in achieving the net zero emission target by 2060.
