We are witnessing an increase of 23.23 percent if we compare this year's April and last year's April.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 1.07 million international tourists visited Indonesia in April 2024, reflecting an increase of 23.23 percent compared to the year-ago period, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy reported on Monday.

"We are witnessing an increase of 23.23 percent if we compare this year's April and last year's April," the ministry's expert staff, Nia Niscaya, said at a weekly press conference in Jakarta.

Citing a report issued earlier by Statistics Indonesia (BPS), she added that the 1.07 million foreign tourist visits reflect an increase of 2.41 percent compared to the figure registered in March 2024.

The official said that the cumulative number of international tourist visits during the January–April period was 24.85 percent higher compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The top three countries of origin of the tourists were Malaysia (15.9 percent), Australia (11.9 percent), and China (8.06 percent), she informed.

Meanwhile, Banten's Soekarno Hatta Airport and Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport stood first and second as the busiest entry points for international tourists.

In terms of accommodation, Niscaya said that occupancy at rated hotels in April 2024 rose by 47.14 compared to April 2023 while that of unrated hotels increased by 26.21 percent.

She further said that the ministry will continue to implement strategies to draw a higher number of international tourists to Indonesia, including by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and promoting destinations using online and offline means.

"In general, we are still making use of both online and offline methods to promote (tourism destinations)," she added.
