The ministry's director for pharmaceutical resilience and medical equipment, Roy Himawan, stated at the GHWP TC Leaders Meeting & Capacity Building: Excellence in Medical Device Regulation & Innovation broadcast here on Wednesday that a standardized regulation will foster people's trust in medical equipment access as well as promote the innovation of medical equipment.
"The harmonization of medical devices' regulation on the global level is therefore of utmost importance to provide access. It ensures that all medical devices circulating in the market adhere to stringent safety and quality standards and ultimately safeguard public health," Roy remarked.
He explained that the ministry is transforming the health system through six pillars focusing on primary healthcare, secondary healthcare or referral system, health resilience, funding, human resources, and technology.
Roy underscored the need to support the initiative in order to expedite access to safe, high-quality medical equipment.
Apart from harmonizing the regulation, he also highlighted the importance of building capacity in medical equipment regulation and innovation. He deemed it necessary so that the regulators and industry are on the same page in order to enable them to better navigate the dynamics of the sector.
He also highlighted that collaboration between regulators, industry, and other relevant stakeholders is necessary to prompt innovation as well as to ensure the distribution of safe and high-quality medical equipment in the market.
Roy stated that the event also facilitates business collaboration among players in the medical equipment industry.
"I believe that through regulatory harmonization, capacity building, and effective business collaboration, we can achieve our shared goal of enhancing public access to safe, high-quality, and innovative medical devices," he added.
