Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will donate sacrificial cows to all provinces in Indonesia, including the new capital Nusantara, for the 1445 H Eid al-Adha expected on June 17.

"All provinces receive one (cow), the OIKN (Nusantara Capital Authority) also receives one, and some others (will receive it) according to the president's personal instruction," Presidential Secretariat Chief Heru Budi Hartono stated at the Presidential Palace here on Friday.

According to the Presidential Secretariat's statement, the president will donate a total of 68 sacrificial cows, comprising 38 cows for each of Indonesia's 38 provinces and one for Nusantara city.

The president will donate 27 cows for local and religious figures in East Kalimantan, as well as for mosques and Islamic boarding schools (pesantrens) near the new capital.

He will also donate one cow each for the mosque where he will perform the Eid al-Adha prayer and Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque.

Hartono stated that the weight of the president's sacrificial cows would range between 800 kilograms and one ton each. Islamic practices mandate the meat of animals sacrificed during Eid al-Adha to be given to the poor, the relatives, and the person performing the sacrifice, each by a third.

The presidential secretariat chief said his side will cooperate with agriculture and farming authorities in respective regions to ensure the sacrificial cows donated by the president are healthy and safe for human consumption.

"We will ensure that the cows undergo a series of health checks to ensure they are not infected by unwanted diseases," he remarked.

Hartono also said the location where the president will perform his Eid al-Adha prayer later is yet to be decided. "We are discussing it with the state secretariat minister (Pratikno)," he stated.
