Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is planning to perform the 1445 Hijri Eid al-Adha prayers at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on June 17, 2024, spokesperson for the VP, Masduki Baidlowi, revealed on Friday.

"The Vice President plans on performing the Eid al-Adha prayer at Istiqlal Mosque," he said in a statement received here.

Regarding the Qurban, or animal sacrifice ritual, Baidlowi said that Amin will symbolically hand over one cow to Istiqlal Mosque and donate a number of cows. The meat will be distributed to people in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

"The number (of cows donated by Amin) will not be much different than the number of cows Mr. President plans to donate," he added.

Earlier, the Presidential Secretariat revealed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will donate sacrificial cows to all provinces in Indonesia, including the new capital Nusantara, to celebrate this year's Eid al-Adha.

Chief of the secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, informed that the head of state is planning to provide a total of 68 sacrificial cows that will be donated to 38 provinces, Nusantara, Istiqlal Mosque, and the mosque where the President will perform the Eid prayers.

Of the 68 cows, 27 will be donated to local and religious figures in East Kalimantan as well as to mosques and Islamic boarding schools in the vicinity of the new capital.

"Each province will receive one cow, and so will Nusantara. The other cows (will be donated) according to Mr. President's personal instructions," Hartono said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Friday.

He added that Jokowi is likely to perform the Eid prayers at the mosque nearest to the location he will visit on Eid day.
