Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - The University of Indonesia's Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB UI) announced a new initiative to disseminate information about harmony of multi-ethnic diversity in Tangerang City through the 2024 Dragon Boat Festival.

FIB UI's community service team, led by Rahadjeng Pulungsari Hadi, said in her statement here on Sunday that the team took the initiative to document the festive atmosphere of the Dragon Boat Festival on June 15-16, 2024.

She said that the team not only documented the rowing competition, but also focused on the ethnic and cultural diversity that occurred during the festival.

"We see that this festival is not just a dragon boat rowing competition on the Cisadane River, but also a cultural acculturation medium that signifies the original culture with the local culture in harmony," she said.

Multi-ethnic harmony, she said, can be seen from the multi-ethnic participants and visitors in the event, which all mingled to enjoy the event.

"We hope that taking videos of the festival and conducting interviews with various parties at the location can be an instrument to indicate harmony, namely cooperation, interaction, and harmony," she said.

She hoped that the documentation of the 2024 Dragon Boat Festival in Tangerang can be the first step in strengthening the branding of Tangerang as a smart city that not only focuses on technology, but also on social and cultural values.

The Dragon Boat Festival or locally known as the Peh Cun Festival is one of the largest annual celebrations in Tangerang.

In Chinese culture, the Dragon Boat Festival is held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. The celebration honors a famous politician and poet, Qu Yuan (340-278 BC), who lived in the Chu state during the Warring States Period.
