Jakarta (ANTARA) - As of Sunday, the Istiqlal Grand Mosque in Central Jakarta has received at least 44 Qurbani animals from Muslim communities to be slaughtered after the Eid al-Adha mass prayer on Monday, the mosque's spokesman, Ismail Cawidu, said.

Qurbani is the religious sacrifice of cattle, goats, or sheep that is made after the Eid al-Adha prayers to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's sacrifice of his beloved son for Allah's sake.

The mosque has also received a Simmental cow from President Joko Widodo and a Limousin cow from Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
The Simmental cow's weight is recorded at about 1,192 kilograms while the Limousin weight reaches around 1,164 kilograms, Cawidu told ANTARA here Sunday.

Regarding the Eid al-Adha mass prayer, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, several cabinet members, and foreign ambassadors in Jakarta are scheduled to perform the prayer at Istiqlal Grand Mosque.

"The Eid al-Adha mass prayer is scheduled to commence at 07.00 a.m. local time," Cawidu said, adding that Martomo Malaing will lead the Istiqlal Mosque's Eid al-Adha mass prayer while Professor Amien Suyitno will deliver the sermon.

As reported earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) celebrates this year's Eid al-Adha in Central Java.

According to Vice Mayor of Solo Teguh Prakosa, President Jokowi is scheduled to perform the Eid al-Adha mass prayer at Central Java Grand Mosque (MAJT) in Semarang.

A representative of the MAJT, Noor Achmad, said the President's plan to visit the mosque has been welcomed enthusiastically by MAJT congregants and residents of Central Java.

After the prayers, the head of state will hand over a 1.23-ton sacrificial cow to the management of the mosque for the Qurban ritual.

Chief of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono said earlier that President Jokowi is planning to provide 68 sacrificial cows that will be donated to 38 provinces, new capital Nusantara, Istiqlal Mosque, and the mosque where he will perform the Eid al-Adha prayer.
