Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Operations Command (KOOPS) HABEMA confirmed that it had successfully shot down two members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), one of whom was a defector from the TNI.

According to a statement from KOOPS HABEMA received in Jakarta, Monday, a TNI defector named Danis Murib exited from his military operations by leaving his military post in Kamu area, Dogiyai District, Central Papua, on April 14, 2024.

At that time, Murib, who held the rank of second-class private, was carrying out military operations in Papua.

“The success of TNI soldiers in shooting two OPM people has reduced the strength of the OPM, which, of course, has a positive impact on maintaining security and stability for the smooth process of accelerating development in Papua,” Lt. Gen. Richard Tampubolon remarked.

The TNI soldiers' success in shooting down Murib has demonstrated the professionalism of the personnel in fulfilling their duties.

Moreover, this also added to the list of names of dead OPM figures and curtailed the strength of OPM personnel.

Earlier in the day, Commanding General of the Joint Regional Command III, Lt. Gen. Richard Tampubolon, ordered KOOPS HABEMA to pursue OPM members after succeeding in reclaiming the Bibida area, Paniai District, which had been controlled by OPM on Friday (June 14).

In response to the OPM's continued attempts to undermine peace and order in the Bibida area, the leaders of the Bibida community expressed their support for TNI soldiers to hunt down the OPM members.
