Head of the ministry's Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, remarked here on Tuesday that the standardization mentoring was conducted by helping SMIs obtain the Product Certificate for Use of the SNI Marking (SPPT-SNI).
SNI stands for the Indonesian National Standard, and the ministry has assisted small industries to obtain the standardization to enable them to pursue applying for the product halal certificate.
The halal product certificate is obtained from the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
According to Rizaldi, this step was taken on account of the high potential of Indonesia's halal industry, with 236 million people in the country being Muslims.
"The domestic halal products have high potential. Indonesia, as a country with the second-largest Muslim population in the world, is also a potential market for halal products, especially worship equipment," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Industry Ministry's Center for Textile Industrial Services and Standardization Agency (BBSPJI) was also involved in the mentoring of small businesses.
Head of BBSPJI, Cahyadi, explained that the coaching aimed to ensure that SMIs could meet the standardization of raw materials and production processes.
The participants also learned how to set up a workshop to make batik uniforms, have proof of batik manufacturing ability, have the batik mark certification, and have obtained or are pursuing halal certification from BPJPH.
Cahyadi explained that the mentoring improved the efficiency of batik and textile SMIs, as it helped them fulfill several requirements at once.
Thus, industry players who have passed the standardization can enter the batik market, especially for Hajj pilgrims from Indonesia.
"We always prioritize integrated industrial solutions that provide benefits for SMIs so that they can meet several regulations and standards requested by users," he remarked.
