Twenty-five Indonesian athletes from different sports disciplines have secured a spot to compete at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, which are scheduled to take place in July.
The four most recent tickets were earned by wall climbers Veddriq Leonardo and Rajiah Sallsabillah, judoka Maryam March Maharani, and sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri.
"As of today, a total of 25 Indonesian athletes have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics," chairperson of the Indonesian National Olympics Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari, informed in a statement received here on Tuesday.
Wall climbers Leonardo and Sallsabillah managed to qualify after bagging bronze medals at a qualifying round held in Budapest, Hungary. They finished second and third in their respective categories in the finals of the qualifier.
The International Judo Federation sent a letter to the Indonesian NOC to announce that Judo athlete Maharani deserves a spot in the women's 52kg event at the Olympics after collecting 827 points in total, which places her sixth in Asian rankings.
Meanwhile, sprinter Zohri was granted a place under the universality quota by the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PASI) to feature at the upcoming Olympics.
Oktohari congratulated the four athletes and encouraged them to continue to maintain their physical and mental health to clinch gold medals in Paris.
