President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on Wednesday, visited Mentaya Market in East Kotawaringin District, Central Kalimantan, for a first-hand review of the prices of basic commodities.
"The prices are very good. Shallots are offered for Rp40 thousand (US$2.43) per kilogram, garlic for Rp38 thousand (US$2.31) per kg, and chillies for Rp45 thousand (US$2.74) per kg. The commodities are being sold at prices similar to those offered on Java Island," he remarked.
As cited from his secretariat's statement received in Jakarta, Jokowi noted that the stable prices reflect the smooth distribution of food commodities from Java Island to Kalimantan Island.
"Based on my review, the market is selling commodities at prices similar to those in Java. This signifies that the distribution of stocks has been running smoothly," he pointed out.
The president also made the most of his visit to hand out business capital assistance to several local merchants.
