Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Coordinating Minister Hadi Tjahjanto opened the "Coordination Meeting on the Preparations for 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in the Regions of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Maluku" on Wednesday.
Chairperson of the meeting's organizing committee, Heri Wiranto, informed that the meeting, which was joined by 1,420 online and offline participants, was the second of its kind. The previous coordination meeting was held to prepare for elections in six provinces of Papua region.
During the meeting in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday, Minister Tjahjanto issued five directives. The first underlined the need for all elements in society to work hand in hand to maintain a conducive and stable situation.
He also deemed it crucial for ministries and the relevant agencies to step up coordination to ensure that the elections conform with the applicable regulations.
"Third, it is vital that we aim for the punctual implementation of all stages of the simultaneous Regional Elections," he added.
Outlining the fourth directive, the minister pointed to the importance of all components of the nation playing an active role in preventing polarization by making efforts to preserve the sense of unity and integrity.
Lastly, Tjahjanto drew attention to the importance of intensifying efforts aimed at edifying the public about politics with the end goal of realizing a safe, peaceful, conducive, and quality fiesta of democracy.
"I hope that all the participants will get the most out of this meeting to exchange information on actual problems and identify the solutions," said the former commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian; chairperson of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari; head of the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Rahmat Bagja; and South Sulawesi acting governor Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh also attended the coordination meeting.
