"We are planning to send modern medical equipment and facilities, such as a cath lab, mammograms, CT scan, and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Hence, it is necessary to inspect the hospital's preparedness," he said.
He then underscored the importance of ensuring that hospitals targeted for equipment assistance are manned by talents that are capable of managing and operating the equipment properly.
"I have found that the human resources of some hospitals are ready, while some others are not. Mr. Health Minister (Budi Gunadi Sadikin) will take care of this matter," he informed.
Following the review, the President said that Tamiang Layang Regional Public Hospital currently has 13 specialist doctors but still lacks cardiologists, neurologists, and oncologists.
"(The hospital) has many (specialist doctors). However, it does not have doctors specializing in heart diseases, neurological diseases, and cancers. This case is similar to that at other hospitals. Hence, I push for adding more of the specialist doctors I mentioned," he added.
The head of state emphasized that his visit to the hospital was a testament to the government's commitment to elevating the quality of health services across Indonesia by developing infrastructure and human resources.
Health Minister Sadikin, head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran, and East Barito district head Indra Gunawan accompanied the President during the inspection.
