Banyuwangi, East Java (ANTARA) - The Banyuwangi district government, East Java, is holding the 2024 Nusantara Architecture Festival (FAN) as a form of its commitment to encouraging sustainable development.

"This architecture festival is being held for the fourth time in the Tamansuruh Agrotourism area, (from) June 26 to July 7, 2024," Banyuwangi District Head Ipuk Fiestiandani said here on Sunday.

The local government is continuing to boost the involvement of architects in the construction of sustainable buildings and public spaces in the area, she added.

"By involving architects, buildings not only fulfill their functions, but also look good aesthetically," she said.

According to her, involving architects can encourage the use of green technology and sustainable approaches in building development.

The 2024 Nusantara Architecture Festival, she said, is themed "Architecture and Water."

Dozens of architects from Banyuwangi and other regions of East Java who are members of the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) are displaying environmentally friendly project prototypes at the festival.

"We carried this theme because architects, as development actors, play a big role in water conservation. The goal is to construct buildings that use energy, water, and other resources as efficiently as possible," Fiestiandani explained.

That way, buildings in the region can protect the health of residents and increase their users' productivity, she added.

Meanwhile, acting Head of the Banyuwangi district's Public Works Office Suyanto Waspo Tondo said that the festival also features an exhibition, seminars, competitions, and workshops.

"FAN 2024 has the on-the-spot sketch competition on June 30 (2024) with the object being Rumah Osing (traditional house). It is open to the public," he informed.

From June 26 to July 7, the Tamansuruh Agrotourism Area on the slopes of Mount Ijen, Tamansuruh village, will offer a complete tourism package covering cultural arts, architecture, fashion, education, agriculture, and sports, among other things.

The tourist attractions include cultural art performances, an architecture exhibition, and a natural painting exhibition against the panorama of Mount Ijen.
