Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Home Affairs has called on Regional People's Representative Councils (DPRDs) to play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of this year's regional elections.

In a statement on Saturday, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs John Wempi Wetipo highlighted the DPRDs' crucial role in overseeing the electoral process and encouraging public participation.

During a meeting with DPRDs in Denpasar, Bali, Wetipo emphasized that the responsibility for successful elections goes beyond election organizers. Regional leaders and lawmakers also share this responsibility.

He encouraged DPRDs to actively monitor the implementation of regional grant agreements to ensure sufficient funding for the elections scheduled for November 27 to elect regional leaders.

Wetipo also urged DPRDs to contribute to maintaining political stability and ensuring the impartiality of civil servants during all stages of the elections. Civil servants are mandated to remain politically neutral throughout the electoral process.

He expressed his hope for strong synergy among all stakeholders and elements of society.

"We are working towards successful regional elections this year—secure, smooth, and conducted in an orderly manner," he stated.
