President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appealed to the National Police (Polri) to participate in efforts to make the 2024 Regional Elections a success by maintaining stability and order.
In his speech as chair of the 78th Police Day ceremony at the National Monument, Jakarta, on Monday, Widodo asked the police to help ensure that the elections, which will take place simultaneously on November 27, 2024, run safely and in a fair manner.
"We are about to welcome the regional elections. Hence, I would like to ask the Polri to provide support by maintaining neutrality, preserving stability, and safeguarding democracy, so that the regional elections can run properly," he said.
He also extended his best wishes to the national police and praised all police personnel for their devotion and hard work for keeping the society stable and secure.
The President then highlighted Polri's contribution to Indonesia's success in holding the 2024 General Elections and various major development agendas amid global uncertainties.
During the commemoration of the 78th Police Day, Widodo rode a tactical wagon while inspecting personnel at the ceremony.
Wearing a blue navy suit, the head of state also witnessed parachuting and drum performances by Polri personnel.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and his spouse Wury; Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani; Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD), La Nyalla Mattalitti; Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto; the 10th vice president of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla; and chief of the National Police (Polri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, also attended the ceremony.
The national police adopted "Precision Polri Support the Acceleration of Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Transformation toward Golden Indonesia" as the main theme of its anniversary celebration, which also featured musical performances and a free food bazaar.
