Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry is making proactive efforts to improve the quality of human resources in the textile and textile product industry to boost the industry's performance.

In a statement issued by the ministry here on Thursday, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the efforts are being made because the textile and textile product industry is being prioritized for development on account of its contribution to the national economy.

"The Ministry of Industry remains consistent in carrying out strategic policies in an effort to develop the national textile and textile product industry to be competitive globally," he added.

According to him, as a labor-intensive sector, the textile and textile product industry continues to require workers in massive numbers, particularly workers who have competencies that meet its needs.

Therefore, through a work unit under the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), the ministry is organizing 3in1 Training programs as a proactive strategy to meet the needs of the textile industry. The training programs will provide training, certification, and job placements.

BPSDMI head Masrokhan informed that one of the 3in1 Training programs involved sewing operator training, and was carried out in collaboration with PT Globalindo Intimates.

He said that PT Globalindo Intimates is a women's underwear producer that has penetrated the export markets. The company, which was established in 2008, has a factory area of 32 thousand square meters and up to 3,600 employees.

Masrokhan expressed the hope that through the program, the domestic need for human resources in the textile and textile product industry can be met so that the industry's contribution to foreign exchange can continue to grow.

In the first quarter of 2024, the industry contributed 5.84 percent to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the manufacturing sector and US$11.6 billion to national exports, with a surplus of US$3.2 billion.

The textile and textile product industry employed more than 3.98 million workers, absorbing 19.47 percent of the total workforce in the manufacturing sector in 2023.
