Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia condemned the indiscriminate attack mounted by Israeli occupation forces on Central Gaza's al-Jaouni School operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

"Indonesia strongly condemns Israel's barbaric attack on al-Jaouni School in the Nuseirat refugee camp operated by UNRWA in Central Gaza (July 6)," the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry wrote in a statement on X on Monday.

The ministry pointed out that Israel had continued to commit atrocities and been consistent in violating international law, which led to the ever-increasing number of civilian casualties.

In the statement, Indonesia also slams the UN Security Council and Israel-backing countries for not having taken firm action against Israeli occupation forces that have murdered over 38 thousand Palestinians and injured around 87 thousand others.

"Are such atrocities still not enough for the UN Security Council and countries supporting Israel to take firm actions against Israel?" the ministry emphasized.

Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israeli forces had committed a massacre in a school located within the Nuseirat refugee camp in Central Gaza, noting that the inhumane act resulted in the deaths of 16 civilians and injured about 50 other people.

The Palestinian resistance force Hamas responded by labeling the savage attack as part of the genocide campaign being carried out by Israel against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas also demanded that the international community and the UN take the requisite effective measures immediately to put an end to Israel's violent acts and war crimes in Gaza.

Meanwhile, a Gaza media office revealed that Israel had launched an attack on as many as 17 schools and refugee camps since its US-backed aggression began on October 7 last year.

Gaza residents have been taking shelter in schools following the destruction of their homes and residential areas by Israel's ground and air strikes.
