Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has proposed an endowment fund allocation of Rp2 trillion (US$118 million) through the 2025 State Budget to support the development of tourism activities under the Indonesia Quality Tourism Fund (IQTF) program.

This was conveyed by Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, after an internal meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday.

"The Indonesia Quality Tourism Fund will be formed with initial managed funds in the form of an endowment fund of around Rp2 trillion," Uno informed.

During the meeting, Widodo also urged that all regulations governing the IQTF program be completed by August 2024.

The minister explained that IQTF is a funding program to support several tourism activities with the potential to become tourist attractions, increase tourist visits, and encourage economic growth in tourist destinations.

Through the allocation of the endowment funds, Uno is confident of producing international quality activities that have an economic impact, help revive tourist movement, and improve Indonesia's image at the global level.

According to him, this program is expected to boost Indonesia's tourism ranking at the global level, which is currently at 22.

The IQTF program is also expected to increase the duration of stay of foreign tourists in Indonesia and thereby, have a positive impact on the economic cycle of the domestic community.

"We hope that Indonesia's position in world tourism development, which has achieved significant progress, namely at 22nd place, can continue to improve with the quality of tourism visits that stay longer," he said.

Uno then emphasized the need to consider environmental sustainability in the tourism sector.

Several measures will be taken to ensure sustainability, including waste management efforts in tourist areas as well as policies to reduce carbon emissions, as part of IQTF's role in the global community, he informed.

"We hope Indonesia will continue to develop its tourism and increase quality tourism visits towards a Golden Indonesia," he remarked.
