"I ask all regional heads to focus on running the TB program because this concerns the future of children in Central Papua," Haluk said in a press release issued here on Wednesday.
She added that although the provincial government has received an award from the Ministry of Health for successfully running the 2024 TB Program, she wants local governments to not become complacent and continue to implement the program.
"I also ask that the local health offices in the eight districts should be more aggressive in tracing TB cases, conducting investigations, and also preventive therapy against TB, and curing patients," she said.
She informed that her side is optimistic about lowering the number of TB cases in the community.
Meanwhile, head of the Central Papua Provincial Health Office, Silwanus Sumule, said that to deal with tuberculosis, his office is continuing to collaborate with all district governments in the region.
"Based on our data, Mimika and Nabire districts are considered the highest in paying attention and supporting this goal," he informed.
As of June 30, 2024, the number of TB cases in Central Papua has reached 9,149, he said.
"With the high number of TB diseases found, the health office is working extra to suppress these cases," he added.
Earlier, the Central Papua Provincial Health Office received an award for the best implementation of the 2024 TB Program from the Ministry of Health.
The award was presented in Padalarang, Bandung, West Java, on June 9.
