Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has reported that 280 people have so far survived the recent landslide incident near a gold mine in East Tulalobo village, Bone Bolango district, Gorontalo province.

"For now, the total number of survivors is counted as 280 people," Basarnas' director of operations, Edy Prakoso, informed when contacted from Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, 135 survivors reported to the SAR main operation post only on Thursday.

Earlier, the post recorded 85 survivors, who were evacuated by a joint SAR team. The majority of them were miners and their family members, who were around the mining area when the landslide occurred.

On Wednesday (July 10, 2024), the SAR team temporarily stopped search operations due to inclement weather, pending the local Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) post's recommendations.

The same day, many survivors returned to their families after they were confirmed to be in good health by the health team stationed at the post or medical personnel from the hospital.

On the sixth day of the search operation, the joint SAR team managed to find three bodies, which were evacuated using a police helicopter. With this, the number of fatalities reached 26.

Meanwhile, out of the total 325 landslide disaster victims, 19 victims are still missing.

"Tomorrow is the seventh day or the last day of the SAR operation. However, Basarnas is ready to continue the operation until all of the victims are evacuated during this emergency response period," Prakoso said at East Tulalobo village.
